Maintenance
The Town of Normal maintains 426 lane miles of streets. Each year approximately 3,150 gallons of paint and 18,500 pounds of glass beads are used to mark pavement to provide directions and safe passage for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
More than 12,000 road signs exist in Normal. They are installed in new developments and replaced throughout the community due to damage and age.
Federal standards require signs meet certain reflectivity standards, sign face size standards and letter size standards. The Town is in the process of replacing signs to meet those requirements.
