John Burkhart has served as director of the Water Department for the Town of Normal since 2017. In this role, he leads the team responsible for providing a safe and reliable supply of water to the citizens of Normal.
Burkhart joined the Town in 2003 and has held various positions in the department. The department operates and maintains 12 wells, a lime-softening treatment plant, three booster pump stations, four elevated storage tanks, one ground storage reservoir, more than 220 miles of water mains and more than 17,300 meters. The Water Department also reads meters and processes utility bills.
Prior to joining the Town of Normal, Burkhart worked for John Deere where he was responsible for testing experimental hay and forage equipment throughout the United States, Canada and Australia.
Burkhart earned a bachelor’s degree in technical systems management from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of the Illinois Section American Water Works Association and serves on the McLean County Farm Bureau board of directors. He has served as Dale Township Clerk since 2013. Burkhart is a graduate of the Illinois Public Service Institute.
