Greg Troemel- Inspections

Greg Troemel has served as the Director of Inspections for the Town of Normal since 2000. In this role, Troemel leads teams for Zoning, Building, Code Enforcement and works closely with the Town Planner. These teams work collaboratively to plan, develop and maintain a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Troemel joined the Town of Normal in 1985 as a building inspector. He has held a leadership role since 2000 when he was named director. 

During his tenure with the Town, Troemel has witnessed commercial and residential development construction valued at more than $3 billion. He’s seen the population grow by more than 20,000 residents and more than 5,700 new homes constructed during this time. He experienced the construction of the Diamond Star/Mitsubishi/Rivian auto plant, Heartland Community College, The Shoppes At College Hills, Constitution Trail Center, Uptown Redevelopment, five new Unit 5 schools and record off-campus student housing growth.  

Troemel holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Illinois State University, Normal. In 2019, Illinois State recognized Troemel as Distinguished Alumnus for the Department of Technology. He is a member of adjunct faculty for the Department of Technology, Construction Management.  

Troemel is a certified Code Official and a member of regional, state and national code organizations, as well as the Life Center for Independent Living organization.  He also serves as the Town’s ADA Coordinator and was certified as such in 2021 by the Great Plains ADA Center and the University of Missouri.
