Mick Humer- Normal Fire Department Chief

Mick Humer has served as the chief of Normal Fire Department for the Town of Normal since 2007. In this role, Humer leads firefighters providing life safety, emergency services, property protection and public education to all citizens. 

Prior to joining the Town of Normal, Humer served as Division Chief and shift commander for the Urbana Fire Department. In Urbana, he also served as division chief of Operations, which included fire suppression and Emergency Medical Services.

Humer began his work in emergency services for Arrow Carle Ambulance where he served for 20 years in various positions, eventually becoming executive director of Emergency Services at Carle Foundation Hospital. In that role, he supported Arrow Carle Ambulance, Airlife Helicopter and the Carle Regional Emergency Medical Services Division. During that time, he also served 18 years with the Tolono Fire Protection District, including the last 12 years as chief. 

Humer studied fire science at Illinois Valley Community College, Oglesby, Ill. He is a graduate of the Mercy Hospital Illinois Paramedic Program and holds numerous certifications from the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI). He is also certified in the National Incident Command System (NIMS). 

Humer is a member of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force and an executive board member of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association.
